ANALYZE AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM USING CALCULATIONS. A coal-fired power plant generates 500 megawatts of electricity and operates continuously. The plant burns coal with an energy content of 25,000 kilojoules per kilogram, and the overall efficiency of converting the chemical energy in the coal to electricity is 40 percent. The coal contains 2.0 percent sulfur by mass. Assume the plant operates 8,000 hours per year. Show all work and include units in your answers.

A. Calculate the rate, in kilojoules per second, at which the plant must consume energy from coal to produce 500 megawatts of electricity.
