Beauty & Aesthetics
What this unit covers
The topics below follow the published Japanese Lang course framework for Unit 3. Japanese Lang publishes no per-unit weighting, so there is no percentage to chase here.
Lessons in this unit
- い-Adjectives and な-Adjectives13 min · 3 objectivesDistinguish い-adjectives from な-adjectives by form and behavior · Conjugate い-adjectives for the past and negative · Describe beauty and impressions using each adjective type correctly
- Verb Groups: Ru, U, and Irregular14 min · 3 objectivesSort verbs into the three groups: ru-verbs, u-verbs, and irregulars · Recognize why group membership determines conjugation · Apply the group rules to form the polite ます form
What examiners penalize here
- Watch for “trap” words that end in い but are actually な-adjectives, like 綺麗 (kirei) and 有名 (yūmei, “famous”). They do not conjugate like い-adjectives. When you learn a new descriptive word, note its type — い or な — right away.
- Speaking and writing tasks demand fast, accurate conjugation. Drill a core set of verbs across all three groups until the ます, ない, and te-forms are automatic — hesitation over conjugation is one of the biggest fluency drains on the timed sections.
Practice Japanese Lang
Our practice bank is drawn from across the whole course rather than filtered to one unit, which is closer to how the exam asks anyway — it will not tell you which unit a question is testing.
