A eukaryotic cell works because organelles cooperate. (a) Describe the path of a protein that will be secreted from the cell, starting from the genetic information and ending with export. (b) Explain why rough ER and Golgi are both needed rather than being redundant. (c) Explain how mitochondria support this process even though they are not part of the endomembrane system. (d) A toxin destroys ribosomes on the rough ER but leaves the nucleus intact. Predict one immediate consequence for the cell and justify it using your organelle map.
