- For Indigenous American works, tie **material to meaning**. Mexica **feather** regalia and Andean cut **stone** were not merely decorative: iridescent quetzal plumes signaled the highest status and the sacred, and finely fitted masonry displayed imperial power. Naming the material and what it communicated is strong contextual analysis.
