Unit 4: Later Europe & Americas
Art History · Unit 4 · Paper 2

Later Europe & Americas unit test

A test on this unit alone, marked as a percentage and a letter grade — for the test your class is actually sitting, rather than for May. Answer everything, then submit once: seeing the answer to question 3 before attempting question 4 makes the final percentage meaningless.

Each paper is built from this unit’s 34 terms and is the same for everyone, so a teacher can assign “Unit 4, Paper 2” and every student sits the identical test. Multiple choice is marked objectively; the written sections you mark yourself against the model answer and rubric.

This course has no free-response prompt tagged to this unit, so one from elsewhere in the course is used. It is still worth writing — the skill transfers.

Compare the Great Stupa at Sanchi (India, c. 300 BCE–100 CE) with Chartres Cathedral (France, begun c. 1145; largely rebuilt after the fire of 1194). In your response,

identify one purpose each structure served for its community;

describe one specific architectural feature of each;

explain how each building directs the physical movement and attention of a worshipper; and

using specific evidence, explain one significant similarity and one significant difference in how the two buildings relate belief to built form.
