A network administrator is given the block 192.168.10.0/24 and must divide it into subnets for four departments, the largest of which needs 50 usable host addresses. (a) State how many usable host addresses a /24 provides and explain why the usable count is two fewer than the total. (b) Determine the smallest prefix length that satisfies the 50-host requirement, showing your calculation. (c) State how many subnets of that size the /24 yields, and give the network address of the first two. (d) Explain what changes about the number of usable hosts and the number of subnets as the prefix length increases, and why an administrator would not simply give every department a /24.
