What examiners penalize here
- AP does not test radicals in isolation, but strong radical sense boosts your **reading and listening comprehension** by letting you infer unknown words in context. Keep a running list of the 20–30 highest-frequency radicals and one example word for each.
- In presentational writing, vary your sentence openings: sometimes lead with the subject, sometimes front a topic, a time word (今天, jīntiān), or a place. This flexibility reads as higher-level Mandarin and helps you organize a compare-and-contrast essay around clear themes.
