• For causation questions, weigh **religious and secular** motives together: genuine theological grievances combined with princes’ hunger for land and autonomy and the amplifying power of print. Strong answers show the Reformation as both a spiritual and a political revolution.
• When comparing the Protestant and Catholic Reformations, frame them as a **religious dialogue**: each Protestant idea (sola fide, sola scriptura, married clergy) met a Catholic counter-position at Trent. Pairing the claims and counter-claims shows analytical command.
• Social-history prompts reward specifics: link the Reformation to the **patriarchal nuclear family**, the loss of the convent option for Protestant women, rising **literacy**, and the gendered **witch craze**. Concrete social effects, not just theology, earn evidence points.
