Globale Herausforderungen
What this unit covers
The topics below follow the published German Lang course framework for Unit 6. German Lang publishes no per-unit weighting, so there is no percentage to chase here.
Lessons in this unit
- The Subjunctive (Konjunktiv II) for Hypotheticals15 min · 3 objectivesForm Konjunktiv II with “würde + infinitive” and with the subjunctive of common verbs · Use the subjunctive to express hypothetical situations, wishes, and polite requests · Build conditional sentences about global challenges with “wenn”
- Interpreting Arguments & Connecting Ideas14 min · 3 objectivesIdentify an author’s thesis, supporting reasons, and counterarguments in a German text · Use two-way (Wechsel) prepositions correctly with accusative or dative · Deploy cohesive connectors to structure a persuasive response about global challenges
What examiners penalize here
- On the argumentative essay and speaking tasks about global issues, the subjunctive lets you propose solutions diplomatically — **Man könnte…, Es wäre sinnvoll, wenn…, Wir sollten…** (“One could…, It would make sense if…, We should…”). These structures signal sophistication and are worth practicing until automatic.
- The AP argumentative essay is scored partly on **organization and cohesion**. Open with a clear thesis, devote a paragraph to each supporting reason with a connector (**erstens…, außerdem…**), acknowledge a counterargument (**zwar… aber…**), and close with **zusammenfassend**. A visible structure lifts your score even when small errors remain.
Practice German Lang
Our practice bank is drawn from across the whole course rather than filtered to one unit, which is closer to how the exam asks anyway — it will not tell you which unit a question is testing.
